Grab your shades and your beatbox and head to the beach, ’cause the 2012 Mustang GT ’vert is more fun than the dime piece to your right. The newly implemented 5.0-liter V8 is another great instrument of speed from the Motor City. It’s pushing 412hp with a screamin’ redline of 7,000 rpm—you’d be hard-pressed not to drop the top, pop the clutch and perform a smoke show at every traffic light.
While the Mustang GT coupe is at home on the track, the convertible is more stunt and go than track and drag. The semiautomatic top is quick to retract and offers a whole nother level of excitement. Whether listening to the 5-0 rumble from behind or the 500-watt Shaker audio system hitting from within, there’s stimulation from all angles—though we recommend muting the audio and using your right foot to produce the bass.
Depending on your color of choice (we had Grabber Blue), people will be sweatin’ you hard, and it ain’t from the summer sun. However, 19-inch wheels still look small; 22s would be a much better fit.
The 5.0 Mustang is back. Whether you’ve been patiently waiting or turning a blind eye, it will bring you back to the good ol’ days when all you needed was a car, a girl and the sun above. Giddy up.
