    Sonic the Street-Hog

    ’86 buick regal on 24s

Back in ’91, Sonic the Hedgehog spun into living rooms and captured the brains of millions of gamers, one of them being this car’s owner, Nino. His Regal, from the bright blue pigment to the prickly chrome and blue rims, is themed like the spiny hedgehog. “Since I was a kid I’ve always had Sega Genesis and that’s the game I’ve always played,” says Nino.

Four years ago, Nino’s friend bought the Regal from an auto auction and then approached him about the purchase. The car had 62,000 original miles and was believed to have come from Tennessee via some old folks. Nino jumped on it. For 1,700 bucks he had his project car. From there, Nino built up and swapped in a motor he sourced from a ’92 Silverado 1500. Next, he focused on the details that set this G-body apart, from chrome swaybars and hood hinges to the colormatched rear end.

But why Sonic? “It was either going to be Sonic or Mega Man.” Says Nino. “So I’m like fuck it. Let’s do the Sonic, it’s blue, it matches.” Word! Nino and his cronies refer to his G-body as “Sonic the Money Hog” for the amount of paper he’s sunk to build his boyhood dream—about 35 grand. Not to mention all the dough he pours into the gas tank, ’cause you won’t catch this boy running much less than 110 octane. J.C.

IT’S INCREDIBLE AND SAD TO SEE THAT UKY WAS THE ONE THERE FOR YOUR UPS AND DOWN AND NOW IT’S LIKE SHE NEVER EXSISTED! THE CAR IS NICE BUT WE ALL GOT TO SEE THE STORY BEHIND IT ALL.
