    2008 Bentley Continental Speed

    Reviewed by Marcus Amick

Chances are if Captain Kirk had the option, he would’ve kept a Bentley GT Speed on the Starship. This ride’s got all the cachet he would’ve needed to impress those Vulcan chicks, as well as the speed to get back to the Enterprise before Spock and the boys could send out a search team.

Noted as the fastest production Bentley has ever built, you’ll like the fact that, aside from a few exterior details, the GT Speed maintains ‘Classic’ Continental GT styling. The beauty of this beast is less conspicuous, which will help keep the haters at bay. Inside, interior details like the diamond-quilted leather seats and sporty drilled alloy foot pedals let you know right off the rip that this ain’t an average Conti’ GT.

Things really come to life when you hit the gas and the twin turbocharged W12 revs up. The GT Speed is proof that stomach-droppin’ thrills aren’t just confined to wild exotics and roller coasters. Chalk it up to 15 percent more torque and 9 percent more horsepower than a standard Continental GT. The Speed is equipped with 20-inch wheels wrapped with Pirellis and an improved-upon chassis that significantly boost the car’s performance capabilities. A lowered ride height and tighter spring and damper settings, combined with uprated antiroll bars, give the GT Speed more agility and body control. Other performance features include paddle shifts and all-wheel drive, not to mention a new “Dynamic” driving mode that’ll definitely come in handy if you come across some cats rollin’

up at the light and need to go Warp Factor Four.

Fade-resistant carbon ceramic brakes will run you another 10 grand to give you more stopping power for the ride. But if you’re anything like Captain Kirk, you’ll need ’em to make sure you don’t miss all the potential pickups during your travels.
