Rule number one in the rap game: Your cars need to reflect your status. So as you get bigger, ya whips do, too. But there are exceptions to every rule, and Houston rapper Stayve “Slim Thug” Thomas is one of them. For him, downgrading actually makes sense. He already has a 2004 Rolls-Royce Phantom and 2006 Bentley GT Coupe. And given that he hasn’t been able to find a Lamborghini or Ferrari he can fit his 6’6” frame into, exotic cars aren’t really an option. Downgrading is also a good career move at this point. It’d be hard to fault Slim’s strategy of spittin’ 16s on Beyoncé’s “Check On It,” and Gwen Stefani’s “Luxurious (Remix)” and the Neptunes’ fresh-ass beats for his gold-selling debut, Already Platinum, because it broadened his audience. But some thought his music wasn’t Houston enough anymore. Well, for those who think he forgot about the staples of H-Town’s high life, he just copped a 2007 Cadillac DTS fitted with classic swangas and candy paint. And his upcoming album, Boss of All Bosses, will feature heavy production from Houston’s legendary Mr. Lee. The bankroll might have gotten bigger, but Slim’s still a man of the people.
