Thought Lexus’ whole automatic parallel-parking was out of this world? Wait until you hear this one. Volkswagen is apparently working on a similar, but more advanced system, nicknamed Parking Assist Vision (PAV.)
PAV-equipped cars are equipped with cameras and ultrasonic sensors, and identify available parking spots, chosen by the driver through a touch-screen. You place the car in “P” and get out (yeah, you don’t even have to be in the car!) Your remote control keyfob tells the car what to do from then on, and the car parks itself, shuts down and locks itself until you return. Still in development, PAV could mean that tight parking spots are used more efficiently in the future- we’ll have to see if it actually makes it to production.
