Toyota’s been killin the truck game lately- but the big timing hasn’t gone unnoticed by Al Gore’s peeps. So for the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, the Japanese manufacturer is switching things up with its’ A-BAT hybrid pickup concept. The new, compact A-BAT is a whopping 27 inches shorter than an extended cab Tacoma and nine shorter than the regular cab model. From its profile, the A-BAT looks somewhat like a Honda Ridgeline redesigned for (dare we say it?) Batman. Functionally, the A-BAT is the first Toyota to have a mid-gate allowing cargo longer than the standard four-foot bed to extend into the cab. Power comes from Toyota’s famous Hybrid Synergy Drive mated to a four-cylinder engine. The A-BAT officially debuts at the February 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Hybrids are finally starting to look good- or are they?
