DJ Funkmaster Flex has accomplished something few cats in Hip-Hop can claim- he’s defined himself as a true, hands-on car guy, rather than another “Mr. Me Too.” And the passion has paid off beyond his initial steel-wheel success – through a car show tour, TV program, and now a partnership of global proportions- with Microsoft’s Automotive Business Unit. The New York legend is joining with the software giant to promote Windows Automotive, through his Car Wars reality program.
Windows Automotive is a software platform designed to improve in-car “infotainment” for drivers. In an interview with AllHipHop.com, Flex explained the logic behind the mash-up. “Music is my life and cars are my passion… Working with Microsoft Auto allows me to fuse these things into one. One look at the technology they showed me and I knew they were serious about taking automotive entertainment to the next level. I am really excited to be connected with such an innovative company as Microsoft.”
Flex first heard about Window’s mobile software last year, and has since integrated the technology into his 2007 Mustang, 2008 Expedition and classic 1968 Camaro. Mark Spain, Director of Microsoft’s Automotive Business Unit, echoed excitement for the partnership while breaking down his department’s goal- “As people spend more of their time in cars, integrating their digital lifestyle becomes an important part of automotive personalization. Working with Funkmaster Flex allows Microsoft and our Windows Automotive partners to enable rich, integrated in-vehicle solutions that people enjoy in their cars.”
Expect for installation of the software to play a big part in season three of Car Wars with Funkmaster Flex, airing on ESPN2.
Go Flex, go Flex… get that Bill Gates money!
