We love a good engine swap, especially one with a twist—so when we heard that Kurgan Motorsports of Atlanta was pulling the old 5.0 liter V8 from an old Fox Body Ford Mustang and dropping in the mill from a 2011 Mustang, we knew we’d be interested. Not surprisingly, the new engine fit in about as easily as its similarly-sized predecessor; however, according to shop owner Bob Kurgan, his crew had to fabricate a whole bunch of other pieces (such as air conditioning brackets and motor mounts) in order to make them work with the new engine.
Thanks to custom headers, the new Coyote V8 makes 412 horses and 390 lb-ft of torque, but Kurgan’s not done with it yet—he’s planning on adding on a supercharger soon. If you’re interested in doing a 5.0-for-5.0 engine swap of your own, he’s planning on doing a demonstration at the Carlisle All-Ford Nationals in Pennsylvania this June. Sounds like a good reason to head to PA for us! [Shout-out to Carscoop!]
