2007 Chevy Tahoe

by sean a. malcolm

Ah…Isn’t it refreshing to drive around the concrete jungle of Detroit—the home of the billion-dollar automotive industry—in an SUV that isn’t an Escalade? No
disrespect to GM’s other super-sized transports, but when it comes to big trucks the rest of the GM family plays the role of the bastard stepchild next to the ‘Slade. Well, times are a changing, people. And now that the 2007 Chevy Tahoe is hitting the market, you finally have a choice if you’re searching for an SUV that is just as sporty, powerful and chock-full of goodies as any other model in the business [Ed’s note: The ‘Slade is a whopping $15 grand more than the Tahoe].

The ’07 Tahoe is a sweet ride. If you happen to fly down Michigan’s I-75 towards downtown Detroit, you’ll be pleased to, A) drive in comfy leather seats that just might trigger the “itis” and, B) feel how smooth, fast and eerily quiet this baby is. The noise-reduction features the boys at GM have installed make speeding down the highway like a fifth-period library session—giving off the type of serenity, literally unheard of when you’re ripping the concrete.

What’s equally unheard of are the number of features, inside and out, that are packed in the ’07 edition—especially on the outside. One thing that you’ll notice when you first see the exterior, other than the all-new sleek design, is the drastic modification of the grille. Instead of sticking with the previous untidy front, Chevy produced a sleeker and more aerodynamic design, in keeping with GM’s “next-gen” campaign. Now ‘Slade owners can park next to the Tahoe and not feel like they’re slummin’ it.
