When McLaren unleashed its F1 road car in 1997, the BMW-powered machine was soon hailed as the world's fastest production car. It still is. In the last seven years, all major and minor supercar players have tried to snatch the F1's title: Ferrari (Enzo), Lamborghini (Murcielago), Porsche (Carrera GT), Mercedes Benz (SLR Mclaren), Pagani (Zonda C12S), Koenigsegg (CC), and more. None could better the F1's stats: zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, zero to 100 mph in 6.7 seconds, and a top end of, wait for it, 240.1 mph.

So along comes Ferdinand Peich. To mark his retirement as chairman of the Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG), Dr. Peich has a brainstorm. He will revive the legendary (if French) Bugatti brand, build a new super-car and kick the F1's ass.
