by Marcus Amick When it comes to Davin Wheels, expect the unexpected. That’s what has kept the Rhode Island-based wheel company at the top of the game, and it’s a key ingredient of the new Tique finish for the Davin Revolution 7.2 line-up. “We always try to finish 10 steps ahead of the competition, whether it’s innovations or styling, or traditional materials in nontraditional formats,” says Darius Billings, director of marketing for Davin Wheels. “We want to be trendsetters.” But what else would you expect from the cats credited with inventing spinners? The new Tique finish for Davin’s 7.2 series, which features a three-piece forged wheel with a forged spinner, is fashioned after one-of-a- kind antiques. Davin’s keeping a tight lip on the Tique process, aside from saying that it starts with a traditional chroming method with some special tweaks similar to a brushed nickel finish. “Basically it is a finish that we were experimenting with in developing,” says Billings. “It definitely expresses high-end luxury and something that you’ve never seen before in the automotive industry.” Chalk it all up to Davin’s goal of designing wheels like one-of-a-kind pieces of art. “We go through a high-end process, rather than just drawing a circle with spokes,” says Billings. “We go through the same design process that a lot of fashion designers go through.” The cost to floss in a set of these shoes? Anywhere from $3,129 per wheel for 20” to $4,369 per wheel for 26.” Only big ballers need apply.
