Talk about puttin’ in work:Brothers Don and Ernie Boehm saved enough money to start their own rim business. Ernie worked and consulted with several mainstream wheel companies for over 40 years, while Don sold high-end cars and designed and built houses to stack his chips. A common love the LA-based brothers shared was anything automotive, minus the shoes. “At one point, we had the new Modena Spider, Mercedes, Escalade, and Navigator and [thought] we could build wheels nicer than what was in the marketplace,” Don recalls. “I want a wheel that looks like Ferrari made it. I do not want the same five-spoke wheel that I’ve seen Tom Selleck driving around [on his Ferraris] in Magnum P.I.” What started out as a hobby to give their personal whips more appeal has evolved into last year’s launch of Blingz of Beverly Hills, with Ernie focusing primarily on the engineering aspect and Don concentrated on the designs. The men also established a BBH Luxury Motorsports branch that has provided service for Rolls-Royce, BMW, and Roc-A-Fella Records. They also claim to be the only company willing to create exclusive, one-off wheels for the right person, right car and right design, like a Superman rim they recently assembled for Shaquille O’Neal. “The wheel we built for Shaquille for his Rolls-Royce Phantom we won’t build for anyone else,” Don explains. “That wheel was built for the All-Star Weekend in his hometown, and he won MVP. It’s a good possibility that some day that wheel could be worth more than a car.”
