Not that you would have a puff of breath left to manage a scream as you attack 120mph in four seconds. The Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio is a 6500hp Top Fuel drag car simulator on rails. To begin, you and a brave buddy sit side by side as the ride creeps to the staging area. The tension builds as you hear a simulated engine rev and the “Christmas tree” stages (race talk for ready-set-go lights). Then…green! Before you can say, “Like, whoa,” you’re at 60mph in two seconds…and 120mph flattens your face making your eyes squeeze out water. It ain’t over yet—now at 120, you hit the 90-degree vertical incline. By this time the G-forces have sucked your breath away. Top Thrill Dragster’s 420-foot pinnacle is taller than the Statue of Liberty. And just when your eyes begin to focus again, your plummet back to terra firma comes with a 270-degree twist in the track. As quickly as it started, the ride is over and you’re rocking a Gotti boys’ blowout accompanied by perma-grin.
