Carmelo Anthony puts up some fast cash with IndyCar team Hemelgarn Racing.

by Jack Chinelli

Carmelo Anthony, the 22-year-old millionaire Denver Nugget has invested in a boyhood fantasy. “Every kid dreams of owning and driving a race car,” says the NBA small forward, who has partnered with IndyCar team Hemelgarn Racing as a financial backer. “I have always had a love for cars, especially fast cars, and this is a dream come true.” But the Mile High City’s thin air hasn’t gone to ’Melo’s brain. His role is strictly behind the scenes, not the wheel.

“I’ll stick to driving in the basketball lane, and let [rookie driver] P.J.[Chesson] handle the fast lane,” jokes Carmelo. Good thing, ’cause IndyCar racers see 100mph from zero in three seconds, and travel the length of three basketball courts in one second. Chesson was put in the driver’s seat after a tragic 220mph crash took the life of driver Paul Dana. Learn more about Carmelo Hemelgarn Racing at indycar.com.
