Watch 40-Year-Old Virgin, then swing a back-seat episode, thanks to the MobMov.

Back in the day, smashing out Peggy Sue in the backseat of a Chevy Bel Air was respectable, as long as it happened at the drive-in. It was classy—watch a movie, maybe enjoy some popcorn or a chili dog, then…some orifice rummaging at intermission.

In May, 2005, Bryan Kennedy, 25, longing for a bygone era, started MobMov, a Cali-based, guerilla drive-in movie movement. Kennedy rolls deep into vacant lots, rigs a projector to his car battery through a power inverter and transmits the audio to an FM channel to allow participants to enjoy a flic with window-steaming privacy.

“The intimacy is important,” says Kennedy. “I wanted to create something enclosed; a true drive-in,” he continues, differentiating MobMov from some “drive-ins” where you need to get out of the whip to enjoy the show.

Like any successful operation, membership and starting a MobMov chapter is simple. Just check out Kennedy’s website, mobmov.org, where he outlines the set-up and sign up. “It’s an interesting challenge,” states Kennedy. “I’m starting it so that other people can start MobMovs in other towns.”

Presently boasting 411 members, Kennedy’s brainchild is sure to spread like third grade head lice. Not even counting MobMovers conceived on location.
