Boomin’ On 22s
MTX's new subwoofer proves bigger is better.
by Jeff Kitts
On an August edition of MTV's Pimp My Ride, a young fella with a 1986 Buick Century had his former hooptie transformed into a rolling bucket of bad-ass bass with the first-ever installation of an MTX Audio Thunder 9922 JackHammer 22-inch Super Woofer- yes, 22inches of madness.
The JackHammer screams excess at every solder point: it stands 23 inches tall, weighs 370 pounds, and has 12,000 watt peak power handling.. “It's strictly a baller's tool,” says Sincere, Director of Promotions and Special Events for Mitek. “The JackHammer sets apart the real players from the scrubs.”
At $7000 for the raw driver and a cool ten-thou for the custom box installation, the JackHammer-which took two years to design, and build—is as heavy on the wallet as it is on a vehicle's suspension. “You don't just take this woofer and put it in your car,” says Scott Abel, tech support guru for Mitek. “You'll need a dedicated JackHammer vehicle: like, 'Here's the Excursion I had to buy to house my JackHammer.”
