Story sean a. malcolm /// Photography Clay Patrick Mcbride
A year after its disastrous arrival, Hurricane Katrina’s effect can still be seen on the streets of New Orleans, as well as in the saddened eyes of those who once called The Big Easy their home. And even though one of them hides behind a pair of dark-tinted designer shades, and the other behind a fitted cap so low it covers said eyes, on this sunny but humid day in Miami, Cash Money Records’ President and CEO Dewayne “Lil’ Wayne” Carter and CMR co-founder Bryan “Baby” Williams bear a somber grimace whenever the name of “that bitch” comes up.
The storm ravaged not only their homes, but the thing that they’re most notorious for—their arsenal of fly whips. No need to worry about Birdman and Birdman Junior’s transportation options, though. Just like Crescent City, this father-and-son duo (whose duet album Like Father, Like Son hit land in September) is in the rebuilding process—not only the places where they once rested their heads, but the garages with matching high-end ish that cost more than your life. Bank on that.
