Cincinnati’s Phantom Donk is finally complete, check it from the inside out before it begins to terrorize the Midwest.

Dr. Frankenstein never intended to build a monster… just a beautiful creature that would be his friend; he accomplished neither. Centuries later, and miles away from Ingolstadt, a team of Ohio-based mad-scientists doctored up a similar project, with much different intentions—meet the Phantom Donk.

With a presence that can only be likened to something monstrous in nature, this creation is the brainchild of owner Congo, and Spade Kreations custom car shop. Tim Thornton of Spade explains its birth: “Congo came in here and wanted to put a different nose on his ’72 Caprice. We all got talking, and somehow a Phantom got suggested. As crazy as it sounded, we printed out some pictures, followed the body lines, and
realized that it just might work.”

Crazier still is how this operation actually went down. Being that Rolls-Royce parts are heavily priced, sourcing an OEM front would have made the project’s price tag frightening. Instead, the team at Spade utilized the power of the internet to source photos of Rolls’ flagship from every possible angle. Piecing together an arrangement of images, they were able to construct a hand built mold that ties the Phantom’s lines into the Caprice’s. Every piece had to be custom fabed, right down to the grille. In fact, the only factory-sourced Double-R parts are the upper headlights. The result; intimidating to say the least, but not in that “run for your lives” kinda way.

Hopped up on 30-inch TIS modulars, this Caprice does more than just rock a menacing mask, it’s a monster to the core. Congo recalls what he told the shop before surgery commenced, “I want a car that I can get stupid in… burnouts, donuts, fast! It can’t just look good.” Not ones to disappoint, the masterminds at Spade dropped in a supercharged 572 Chevy Big Block, with a built Dana 60 drivetrain and the entire suspension set-up is custom made from truck parts. “It’s good for about 1,000hp,” says Thornton, somewhat matter-of-factly. Congo and Spade Kreations take a surprisingly modest stance on their melding of presence, power, and beauty into one package…but Frankenstein would be mad jealous.
